ABSTRACT

What to do Start by pointing out that we all make excuses at various times in life, both to ourselves and other people. In our mind these often begin with thoughts such as:

• ‘I can’t do that because …’

• ‘It won’t matter if I don’t …’

• ‘I’ll do that another time …’

• ‘I can’t be bothered with that now …’

• ‘It won’t make any difference …’

• ‘I’ve got too much to do …’

• ‘There’s not enough time …’

The result is that intended tasks or actions are put off and end up never getting done. This also interferes with any future motivation to do something. Each time the person makes an excuse, it becomes less likely that the action is taken.
