ABSTRACT

With hemianopia, usually the individual tends not to see the left or right half of a visual scene (eg a hospital ward), which may cause the individual to bump into things or have diffi culty fi nding things. In contrast, a person with neglect may fail to see the left or right half of a visual scene and/or individual objects or stimuli (eg the individual may only see one half of his or her plate or one half of a word). A person with neglect may also have diffi culty focusing attention on sounds presented to and touch on one particular side of their body (although this is not always the case).
