ABSTRACT

Gaining insight and inspiration by studying the work of other artists can be fruitful and stimulating. The idea is to use this experience as a trigger or springboard to finding and developing personal styles and preferences. Van Gogh was interested in people and portraits, as well as still life. He also showed emotion and humanity in his work, and is a very colourful and moving artist to study. The chapter explores the work of Kandinsky with group members. Kandinsky's work can be both abstract and figurative. He sometimes used representational images that break away from pure abstract form. Encourage the group to explore his work further and find out about the artist. Other influences and inspirations behind his work appear to be music, a sense of spirituality, and the idea that colours have character and expression of their own.
