ABSTRACT

This chapter presents an exercise that enables people to look for positive and successful outcomes to art, and identify skills and aspirations within themselves. This is also a useful exercise to enable people to recognise their own strengths, or build goals to improve their skills, and achieve the outcomes they choose for themselves. Spend time with the group initially by looking through the resources chosen, and watching any video/slides offered. Some people may find it difficult to describe what they see or feel about the items seen. If someone's experience of art is limited or non-existent, it may be difficult for them to find the appropriate words or means to express themselves. Be prepared to make or find additional communication tools to enable an individual to join in – for example, cards with descriptive words/pictures on them that the person can point to or select.
