ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses various methods, their alternatives, related comments to guide group members for exploring black and white, shades of grey, and tonal pictures. It begins with a general discussion on the effect of light and shadow in our environment and everyday lives. It is a good exercise in enabling people to identify colours, and to demonstrate that different tones can be found within the same colour. Modern art is a good source of inspiration when working with colour and tone. The group members are enabled to look at modern paintings and abstract art, and to have a go at copying the images and colours. The collage materials, such as newspapers, textiles, black and white photographs, or images from magazines are used.
