ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book explores definitions and a shared understanding of the concept of resilience and seeks to explain some background theory on resilience research. It suggests ways to use stories to nurture emotional resilience in a student, or small group of students. The book explains some of the key metaphors in the book How Monsters Wish to Feel, which accompanies this guidebook. The Resiliency Rainbow Toolkit is a practical and interactive resource that aims to provide some creative and engaging ideas for nurturing emotional resilience in students, whilst also supporting and extending children's understanding of the themes in How Monsters Wish to Feel. The Toolkit is a strengths-based psychological intervention that draws upon a range of ideas and approaches.
