ABSTRACT

" Free and protected environment in which the heart and spirit could open and blossom as it has longed to do since the beginning of time - a capacity to create a compassionate container strong enough to allow old parts of us to die and new parts to be torn." The environment contrives to reduce stress and tension, and allow parents to re-engage with their children in a more positive state of mind and hence be in a better position to develop new strategies for tackling difficulties as they arise. The room has been designed so as to promote a sense of peace and relaxation and comprises a range of soft furnishings, bean bags and 'mini-environments' including tent-like areas, cosy corners, water cascades, soft toys, plants and musical instruments. The learning environment is defined as that which surrounds and has an influence on personal receptivity as well as psychosocial, emotional and physical well-being.
