ABSTRACT

Classroom conferences are an ideal way to deal with bullying behaviour so that students themselves remove bullying from the agenda. If a classroom conference is planned, it will be important to provide sufficient detail to parents about the whole process and to assure them that it will not exclude other sanctions or actions if they are not satisfied with outcomes from the conference. The conference process provides the safety and security for students to sometimes voice very secret and personal things. If the admissions by the wrongdoers and the stories of the victims are inconsistent and muddy, then more work needs to be done by speaking to others who may be able to shed some light on what happened. Re-victimisation is minimised when victims are provided with support from significant others, given choices about outcomes, and have their needs met by being believed and validated. Wrongdoers are provided with the same choices and opportunities in a process free from punishment.
