ABSTRACT

The first three of the stories in this chapter were made by the staff of William C Harvey School (North London) during a storytelling course. Workshop participants divided themselves into groups of four or five and were invited to rework a poem or story of their choice into an interactive version. Groups who had more than one ethnic background were encouraged to suggest a poem or story from their non-English cultures. At the end of the afternoon each group presented its story to the others. The school staff have kindly agreed for these examples to be published and used by anyone. It is recommended that, if posible, you have access to someone from the specific culture to offer advice on pronunciation. The third story is not derived from an original source, but was made up on the day.
