ABSTRACT

In the current educational environment the so-called 'myth of the good teacher' has become a dinosaur from the past. When teachers are supervising students whilst they are off the school site – for example, on educational visits, work experience, and so on, the risk assessment should show that all supervising adults require visible identification badges. Many members of staff take students on school trips without any form of visible identification. Identification badges should be clear and easily understandable, showing the teacher's name, school and professional job title. These badges provide vital information for anyone providing assistance and simplify communication when help is sought. The myth of the good teacher has finally come to an end. Like everyone else, teachers sometimes need help. They should be prepared to ask for it and to accept assistance when the situation demands this.
