ABSTRACT

In one ear and out of the other' is something frequently said about students in the classroom. Teachers will recognise this just as they will the classroom chatterboxes who continually demonstrate their conversational skills with colleagues. These same students are often those who have developed highly selective listening skills, choosing to hear comments on which they wish to act and ignoring those that they cannot be bothered to deal with. Learning to listen, and speaking at the appropriate time, are life skills that should be learned in the home and reinforced at school. Most people do not see themselves in the way they are seen by others. The use of audio and video recording can prove invaluable here. Before carrying out any such recording, however, it is important to obtain the necessary permissions from management, parents and students.
