ABSTRACT

The purpose of this chapter is to highlight the professional issues that are unique to the practice and work of the school counselor. This chapter includes important information regarding dual credentialing, specializations, ethical dilemmas, and supervision. We highlight and define various credentials and licensing, along with the complexities and ethical dilemmas that can arise from having dual credentials. Also, because most clients of school counselors are minor children, known as students, a discussion of the unique set of ethical and legal issues to navigate is included. Additionally, the issue of supervision is addressed and how important clinical supervision is once students have graduated from their programs and are practicing school counselors.
