ABSTRACT

Tiger Management practices in the fields of strategy, leadership, and human resource management have strengthened the competitiveness of Korean firms throughout the last few decades and enabled them to become leading global players in knowledge-intensive industries. Tiger Management has provided the companies with various dynamic capabilities which enable them to adjust to rapidly changing needs in highly volatile business environments. Such business environments become ever more important and prevalent due to rapid technological change and the increasing weight of emerging markets in the global economy. Therefore, non-Korean companies should study Tiger Management to understand what they can learn from their Korean counterparts. Tiger Management is most attractive in dynamic business environments. Furthermore, it is relatively easier to adopt when the home countries of firms are culturally similar to Korea. As a result, Tiger Management is most attractive to study for firms in high-tech industries in China and other East Asian countries. In order to absorb best practices from Korean companies and adopt Tiger Management, non-Korean firms should make systematic and persistent learning and implementation efforts.
