ABSTRACT

This chapter introduces young children and their teachers and caregivers to the second and third stages of the World Music Pedagogy process, Engaged and Enactive Listening. Engaged Listening invites young children to use their listening as a launch pad for participating with the music in some manner, such as body percussion, free movement, choreographed movement, or even singing. Enactive Listening invites young children to use their listening as a foundation for creating the music by and for themselves. This may involve singing, instrument play, dance, and more. This chapter offers a variety of lesson episodes for teachers of young children to employ in engaging them in multimodal, active musicking.
