ABSTRACT

This chapter invites teachers and young children to make connections between the world’s musical cultures and their own lives, cultures, communities, and beyond. Various lesson episodes are presented to help young children explore the intersection between music and various age-appropriate content areas, such as Language Arts, Science, Visual Arts, Mathematics, Social Studies, and Holidays and Celebrations. This chapter involves children in using the world’s musical cultures as a point of departure for storytelling and personal sharing, puppetry, instrument play, art projects, singing, dancing, discussing the environment and weather, counting, creating games, and thoughtful reflecting upon the holidays and traditions that people celebrate across the world.
