ABSTRACT

This chapter serves as a conclusion to World Music Pedagogy Volume I: Early Childhood Education. This chapter synthesizes the many benefits of bringing World Music Pedagogy into the early childhood realm, such as social and cultural benefits as well as benefits to the understanding and creation of music. This chapter outlines various considerations for teachers who become involved with this pedagogy, including the necessity of self-reflection and the dedicated and comprehensive work required to bring music of an unfamiliar culture into the classroom in respectful and appropriate ways. The chapter further offers lesson-planning ideas and examples for packaging the various stages of the World Music Pedagogy process into meaningful instructional units for young children.
