ABSTRACT

Comprehensive listings of resources for healthcare information and programs are readily available on the Internet. Medically necessary nursing services are available for clients through any public or private insurance plan and may be residential or community based. Social workers assist clients by providing case management services to coordinate, advocate for, and obtain needed medical care and ancillary health services, and also assist clients through health-related crises and special problems. People who are employed or whose spouses are employed generally have some medical insurance options available through their employers. People with private insurance and an increasing percentage of Medicare and Medicaid insured are enrolled in managed-care plans. The Affordable Care Act denies private insurers the option of refusing clients with pre-existing conditions, a major benefit for people with disabilities. Marketplace Health Exchanges were developed as a part of the Affordable Care Act.
