ABSTRACT

Gear machining operations that feature intersected axes of rotation of the work gear and the gear cutting tool can be executed when an internal gear machining mesh is reproduced for machining the gear. Under such a scenario, either internal gears can be cut with gear cutting tools having an external generating surface or external gears can be machined with enveloping gear cutting tools. This chapter explains the vector representation of the internal intersected-axes gear machining mesh for cutting internal gears. In addition to the motion of cut that is parallel either to the axis of rotation of work gear or the axis of rotation of the gear shaper cutter, motions of cut of another types are also possible. A shaper for machining an internal gear can be designed on the premise of the internal gear machining mesh. Implementation of the kinematic scheme of gear generating can be extended to machining of external recessed tooth forms by an enveloping shaper cutter.
