ABSTRACT

The Communications Matrix is used to summarize, facilitate, and manage communications by defining the details regarding communication activities. It can be used during the team or department's activities, and during the course of a project. The key components of a communications matrix are the communication type, description, delivery method, frequency, documents, participants, and those responsible for making sure each communication event takes place according to the plan. The first step is to identify the relevant stakeholders that should receive communications. The next step is to determine the frequency of the communication. In general, a Communication Matrix captures the who, what, when, where, how, and why of audit communications. A Communications Matrix improves communications within the audit team, the internal audit function, and with relevant stakeholders. A Communication Matrix documents the who, what, when, where, how, and why of engagement communications.
