ABSTRACT

This chapter examines different forms that intelligent disobedience can take, such as: bending rules, breaking rules, or inventing rules to suit a given situation; or challenging the decisions of individuals, a group, or external entities. Successful intelligent disobedience often requires nonstandard behavior – in other words, acts that don't fall into the well behaved category. Employee badges had different background colors, distinguishing managers from non-managers. The meetings represented intelligently disobedient behavior by breaking down the toxicity in his corporate environment, while not significantly disrespecting the organization's culture. It is wise to work with senior management to define stewardship or sponsorship responsibilities and the responsibilities to delegate that team. Whether a partnership is personal, between businesses, or amongst a team, outcomes driven by shared values and enhanced by persistence can produce profound results and inspire fierce loyalty for the leader or amongst the partners.
