ABSTRACT
After the investigation of Brett’s death wrapped up and we had finished dealing with OSHA, the project to secure floor openings gained traction quickly. Nothing grabs upper management’s attention like an employee fatality. This was an opportunity to strike while the iron was hot, and although it may sound cold blooded, I wanted to use Brett’s death to my advantage to make more safety improvements quickly, while there was a lot of motivation for change.
