ABSTRACT

This chapter introduces lighting systems and explores how QLab interacts with them. Lighting design has long been an essential design area for performances and installations. It has only been since the release of V4 that QLab has offered the ability to natively control lighting through workspace. Conventional lighting instruments are lights that remain in a fixed position and whose intensity can be changed by the amount of electrical power supplied to them. All lighting consoles have an input/output to facilitate this communication. A submaster is a fader that can have multiple channels at specific levels attached to one fader for control purposes. Most modern lighting consoles have tools for generating lighting effects, like "chase" controls or random channel playback. Effects such as chases and the like are accomplished through programming, using a Group Cue with a series of Light Cues and a Start Cue to trigger loop playback.
