ABSTRACT

This case introduces students to a common issue in National College Athletic Association (NCAA) sports, namely the transition of elite student-athletes close to the top level of their sport from college to professional sport. This kind of situation tends to affect student-athletes who play a sport connected to a consistent professional league in the USA such as Major League Soccer and its affiliates, the National Football League, Major League Baseball, the National Basketball Association and the Women’s National Basketball Association. This case challenges the reader to consider how they might respond to a complex situation with multiple influences on the athlete making the transition to professional sport difficult.
