ABSTRACT

This case demonstrates the experience of a women’s soccer player recovering from an anterior cruciate ligament ACL injury. The student-athlete will be working with a strength and conditioning coach and an athletic trainer to implement an imagery and visualization program. It is not uncommon for sport medicine professionals to have training in and awareness of the fundamentals of mental skills such as visualization, relaxation and goal setting. The role of sport psychology practitioner is seen as a guide on the side providing feedback and direction to the individuals implementing the program. Discussions about the case, the role of the sport psychology service provider and mental skills training program outcomes are encouraged.
