ABSTRACT

Study of the mechanisms of self-suggested action on the human organism holds a significant place in research on its processes. Self-suggestion is a realization by the subject of a wide complex of purposefully directed mental self-action on his own organism. Self-suggested accelerated reaction time becomes understandable as the influence of a self-suggested set formed to perceive a stimulus and an appropriate readiness for motor response. Self-suggested change of perception speed is undoubtedly related to the nature of its origin and process acted upon by purposefully directed self-suggestion and appropriate sets. The basic conditions for successful self-suggestion are concentration of attention on the action being performed together with constant repetition of it. The concept self-suggestion is broader, since hypnosis produces a particular sleeplike state characterized by immobility, decreased reactivity to external stimuli, and a self-immersion consisting basically of passive observation of the experience.
