Description of recent developments in school organization, classroom work, and teacher training in Scandinavia (Den­ mark, Norway, Sweden, and Finland); the author notes that "it is only since the Second World War that Sweden... has come to play a leading role in the development of Scandinavian education" (p. 181). Unity school, gymnasium trends, curricula, and methods of teaching are discussed; teacher training is seen as vital and basic to the improve­ ment of education. Under a section headed "Controversial Questions" there are references to the influence of politi­ cal parties in school reforms, to social education, and to student discipline.
