ABSTRACT

The door to the toilet stall swings open. There stands Long John Silver, the noonday sea roaring at his back. Silver beckons the haggard urban ites who await him beyond, to Manchuria and the promise of salvation. In My Beatles, Satoh Makoto had discovered the influence of the Japanese gods in recent political events. In John Silver: The Beg gar of Love, Kara Jíirõ describes the continuing attraction of those gods in Tokyo’s urban jungle and warns that their promise of immortal ity may yet have political implications.
