ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts of the concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book addresses the international legal framework for geoengineering techniques. It merely embraces the techniques that are designed to be deployed in the areas beyond national jurisdiction, or the techniques that may cause interference to the environment of another state or the areas beyond national jurisdiction. The book addresses positive analyses, explores contemporary international rules and principles applicable to geoengineering technology in general and each specific technique respectively. It elaborates rules and principles applicable to all geoengineering techniques in general under contemporary international law. The book addresses normative analyses, attempting to provide suggestions for improved governance of geoengineering. It explores legitimacy and institutional issues with respect to the governance of geoengineering. The book proposes a framework for balancing the risk of climate change against geoengineering.
