ABSTRACT

The purpose of visualizing production is to show everyone whether work is running ahead of, on time, or behind the schedule. The use of computers for production management was one of the many reasons why it was so difficult for Nabeya to reduce the amount of work-in-process at their facilities. It should not be the sole responsibility of managers to gather and communicate information to the workplace. Every employee should bear the responsibility of making operations more transparent. Adding to the idea that everyone can and should contribute to gathering data is that this data should be made visual and easy for anyone to understand. A production management board must indicate critical information such as what items need to be produced and how many items must be completed by a certain time throughout the day. It is the role of managers to frequently visit each shop floor and understand what types of existing issues have been encountered or solved.
