ABSTRACT

The Bully – also known as the Critic or the Judge – is usually very verbal, loud, abusive, punitive, and shaming. When the Self was sacrificed and was not available to take care of young vulnerable Exiles, the Bully took over this important job. As the Bully yells louder, and the Exiles feel worthless, the Troublemakers get involved, the Rebels act out, and the Numbing or Distracting Parts get busy. Instead, the Bully probably learned indirect communication, abusive language, name-calling, humiliation, and all-or-nothing thinking. The Bully is almost always experienced as thoughts or voices in the head. If the Mentor slips into the Bully role and yells at Bethany again, Bethany is to quietly remind the Bully to talk softly and calmly. The Bully has a trick to keep herself in control of the other Parts.
