ABSTRACT

This chapter covers the gamut and perhaps also offers readers suggestions for related studies. Because these suggestions are rich in nature, they cross multiple subheadings showing just how complicated and multidisciplinary the phenomenon of bullying in academe really is. Undertaking the research topics recommended in the chapter would indeed provide us with a clearer picture of faculty-on-faculty bullying. With myriad definitions and perceptions of bullying in the literature and in policy and legal documents, perhaps the first order of research business would be to refine the definition and the understanding of incivility, bullying, harassment, and violence in the workplace, especially academe. Much of the research on adult workplace bullying is quantitative and cross-sectional. More research needs to be done using longitudinal and quasi-experimental research approaches in addition to qualitative research and mixed methods studies. Several researchers remarked that while many studies focus on the target, few provide information on the bully.
