ABSTRACT

This chapter shows that the puppet sentence completion task (PSCT) was developed to make the traditional child SCT more appropriate for preschool-age children. The PSCT as first described was designed for use with a general preschool-age population. The PSCT can be used with children from 3 to 7 years old. These ages are approximate boundaries given the individual differences of children in the preschool- and early school-age years. Although there are certainly 2. 5-year-old-children who would be able to complete the PSCT, the average child would not have verbal skills sufficient for the task before the age of 3 years. With the exception of age considerations, there are no limitations on the use of the PSCT. A child with a mental age below 3 years, regardless of chronological age, would probably be unable to complete the PSCT. The PSCT was first introduced as a way to utilize a more traditional sentence completion task in a developmentally appropriate way.
