ABSTRACT

Sexual abuse and violence in abusive relationships is the focus of Chapter 4. Healing from an abusive relationship is even more difficult if it included sexual abuse. Many survivors may not recognize or acknowledge they have been sexually abused by their partners. Rape and other forms of sexual abuse are emotionally devastating experiences. If sexual abuse was part of the violence survivors experienced, they may feel an extra layer of pain and distress. This chapter helps them overcome this, too, and includes some additional steps that may be necessary.
