ABSTRACT

What we have tried to demonstrate through providing these worked examples is that investigating language using quantitative methods is an engaging research process that can give rise to interesting conclusions. Any statistical testing is not simply a final optional step in your research project to provide a single, discrete answer to a narrowly focused question – although of course statistical testing can provide that. Rather, taking a quantitative approach is a designed process that allows for a rich exploration of a linguistic issue and the data you might collect to explore that issue.
