ABSTRACT

The 911 system was designed and introduced to respond to all types of emergencies. The 911 system is able to summon medical, fire, and even the assistance of the police. There are probably records somewhere that state how many lives are saved every year by the 911 system. As pilots, we all learn emergency procedures and hope that we will never have to use them. Although the probability may be low that we will encounter a serious emergency, the possibility does exist that we may experience one in the course of our flying career. As a captain we should always have a plan. Each emergency is different. Many emergencies have published procedures for how they are to be handled. The captain must rely on the experience that he or she has acquired through the years and apply the best options at the time.
