ABSTRACT

This chapter shows how one design and implement music for film, television, or interactive experiences has always been a complex discussion. There is never one correct or "best" way to approach this topic. The technical possibilities and depth of immersion for the new technologies means that this conversation has just gotten even more complex. For many years now the line between sound design and musical content has been blurring and there are still many who find this lack of clarity challenging. In general, the blending and blurring of the line between sound design and music has allowed for the creation of some unique and fascinating content. The other real issue is safety. Many of us enjoy listening to loud music, for me soundtracks from the favorite film/game will often be turned up to high volume levels that are probably not great for their ears.
