ABSTRACT

From a diversity and accessibility point of view we should be ensuring that our projects can be experienced and enjoyed by as many people as possible. This includes people who have hearing issues or who are potentially even partially deaf, either in a single ear, or across both ears for certain frequency content. We often seem to struggle to communicate with people even though we are all working on the same project. Our interpretation of certain elements or how the overall feeling of the narrative affects us personally can influence how we would communicate about it. But the issue is that sometimes we get too caught up trying to describe how a thing works rather than how a thing makes us feel. Emotional mapping is the process of plotting out the narrative of out experience without including story beats or climactic events, but rather highlighting the emotional journey of the audience.
