ABSTRACT

The French post-modernist philosopher and social activist Michel Foucault in fact, in the period between the 1950s and the 1980s, dedicated himself to functionally counter-acting the prevailing "modern" rationality, or conventional "scientific" wisdom, presented by "north-western" universities and academics as dominant, and endowed with the status of one-and-only reason. Genealogically, then, such individual learning, for us, is recast in laboratory guise, thereby also duly aligned with organizational learning. Community building, consciousness raising and knowledge creation are equally par for the functional and structural genealogical course. At the same time and of equal importance, bureaucratic accreditation processes then only apply to a small, albeit significant part, of a whole, and even as such are recast in overall, genealogical terms. By 1200, McNeely and Wolverton went on to say, Paris had become known as the international centre for theology. Shorn of its political connotations in its later incarnation, the ideal inspired new practices of humanistic discourse among men and women of letters.
