ABSTRACT
The spectre haunting Southeast Asia is no longer communism. It is globalisation. The Asian economic crisis has shown that the progress of globalisation is no longer - if it ever was - unproblematic. The papers in this collection indicate this. If there is a theme that holds them together, it is a notion of globalisation as both threat and opportunity.
