ABSTRACT

This chapter deals with tumors and tumor-like proliferations of blood vessels and lymphatics. It describes types of the vascular tumors, including benign vascular tumors and malignant vascular tumors. The chapter also describes the histopathology and differential diagnosis of some of the benign vascular tumors, such as intravascular papillary endothelial hyperplasia, acral arteriovenous shunting, lymphangioma circumscriptum, naevus flammeus, hemangioma, cirsoid angioma, pyogenic granuloma, aneurysmal bone cyst and angioleiomyoma. It explains the histopathology and differential diagnosis of some of the malignant vascular tumors, including epithelioid hemangioendothelioma, kaposi sarcoma and glomangiosarcoma. There may be a preexisting benign glomus tumor component, but glomangiosarcoma is deeply located and there are cytologic and nuclear atypia and atypical mitoses. Symplastic glomus tumor is histologically in-between a benign glomus tumor and glomangiosarcoma. The treatment of choice of subungual glomus tumors is either transungual resection or dissection through the lateral nail fold in case of lateral localization.
