ABSTRACT

The conventional empirical research approach more or less relies on norms of rationality developed within the natural sciences. Ideally, the research process should be conducted as follows: The analysis should be guided by clear research questions specified in hypotheses which should be testable. A particular research design must therefore be chosen or developed. The whole research process, so to speak, is seen as something which can be planned and conducted according to plain and simple rules. It is assumed that data collection and interpretation will lead to a research report providing definitive answers to the initially formulated research questions. In contrast to conventional research methods, the research design resembles the focus of the study in the sense that its approach can be described as one of a process of learning. The main purpose of the research phase was to interpret, reflect on and document the empirical data.
