ABSTRACT
Wearables are not strictly a product play – these technologies are increasingly being integrated within a larger catalogue of mobile and Cloud platforms; enterprise systems, clinical workflows and consumer health solutions. With guidance from NIST, FDA and others we’re seeing an increase in device integration with the EHR, PHR, office systems and patient portals. Its’ here that healthcare meets the Internet of Things. To be discussed in greater detail in later chapters, the IoT in healthcare is a heterogeneous computing, wirelessly communicating system of apps and devices that connects patients and health providers to diagnose, monitor, track and store vital statistics and medical information – within the enterprise and beyond.
