ABSTRACT

Among all those studies we have reviewed none of them seem to have developed a framework for the analysis of the relationship between ministers and political activism. Quinley’s study (1974) is, perhaps, the only exception. He used the concept of professionalism as the theoretical framework for his study on the prophetic role of ministers. With reference to the literature reviewed, particularly to Quinley’s approach, we sought to build the analytical framework for the present study on two major recognitions: Protestant ministers are the most visible members of Protestant churches and political participation is action. These are rather simple recognitions, but they help to define the concepts and variables, as well as the relationships among the concepts in the present study.
