ABSTRACT

This chapter concentrates on UK law. Chapter 7 describes the features of copyright law in other countries.

Section 1 of the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988 explains that copyright is a property right which subsists in accordance with the first ftirt of the Act in nine different categories of work in three groups. These are:

(a) original literary, dramatic, musical or artistic works, (b) sound recordings, films, broadcasts and cable programmes, and (c) the typographical arrangement of published editions.
