ABSTRACT

Developing and maintaining organizational expertise (Best Practice 5) is partly driven by competency (Best Practice 4). Using a case study, we present an interpretivist orientation to continuing education, professional development, and stakeholder engagement labeled BRIC: be humble, read broadly, involve all stakeholders, and collaborate with others. BRIC operationalizes the best practice of demonstrating professional development as a precursor to maintaining organizational expertise. Practitioners using BRIC will be more creative, more flexible, and stronger process consultants.
