ABSTRACT

This chapter presents an interview-questionnaire study that explored expertise development activities of 22 professional speakers utilizing the deliberate practice framework. Sixteen deliberate practice activities used to enhance presentation excellence in professional speaking were identified and grouped into five themes: access to resources and community; audience connection; self-development and learning; experience and rehearsal; and self-monitoring and feedback. Implications for CCCTTs in terms of professional development and instructional design for presentation skills training are discussed.
