ABSTRACT

Culture is visible in shared attitudes, behaviours and artefacts and reflected in the outcomes and results the group achieves. The 'continuum approach' shared overleaf makes possible the mapping of cultural assumptions on a given issue making positions, and any shifts in position, visible and trackable. Culture does not stand still. It evolves in response to forces for change and this cultural evolution is cyclical. Culture management involves the mapping of the organization's cultural assumptions, reinforcing those assumptions that support strategies and benefits realization, and pruning those that are unproductive and lead to inefficiencies. The framework focuses on those cultural assumptions that a group holds relating to their broader, macro environment. Cultural assumptions relating to the new environmental challenges will be deeply held. The framework considers those challenges that the organization faces as it adapts to its external environment and also considers those universal problems that the organization faces in terms of internal integration.
