ABSTRACT

With Adobe After Effects, artists and designers can develop and implement time-based designs that go beyond print and static imagery. This chapter reviews the underlying framework in creating a motion design project and introduces After Effects, its interface, and methods of workflow. Once one connects with the client, he/she create his/her assets, and import and arrange the media elements on layers within a timeline in After Effects. The chapter enables one to describe a basic project workflow, from production to final render; create and name project files and compositions; import and composite graphic media and type for motion; and animate layers by setting key frames. It also enables one to apply effects for stylizing and enhancing motion graphics; render for delivery to film, broadcast, the web, and mobile devices. The chapter presents exercises that provide the steps it takes to create a typical motion design project.
