ABSTRACT

Typography is a main staple in most design projects. Typography is the art of arranging letters and characters to convey a message. Designers need to carefully select typefaces, point sizes, appropriate line lengths and spacing for both a single line of text and multiline paragraphs. It might seem trivial, but even the smallest adjustment to a typeface, letter, or character arrangement can greatly impact how a message is communicated. This chapter introduces the type engine in After Effects and shows how to apply basic movement to create a variety of kinetic typographic solutions. It enables one to: discuss terminology and limitations for on-screen type; create text layers in After Effects; and animate a text layer along a path. The chapter also enables one to: apply text animators to a text layer; and use text selectors to animate individual characters.
