ABSTRACT

Most of this book has spoken of mentor and mentee as if there were just two of them. Task-based mentoring also includes the possibility of group tasks. Some of the advantages and disadvantages of group mentoring include the potential for efficiency, how the mentoring relationship and affective filter may be influenced positively or negatively, and one-way transmission versus collaborative dialog. Group settings range from formal workshops with many participants to collaborative or teacher support groups with fewer participants and can be managed face-to-face or virtually. Tasks at the end of the chapter guide mentors to propose a group mentoring set-up and make a group task plan.
